Build 001: The 1972 "Beige" LS2 Scout II

The Vision: A High-Performance SF Daily Driver

This 1972 International Harvester Scout II represents our “Modernist” approach to the classic 4×4. The goal was to take a legendary American icon and re-engineer it for the modern demands of San Francisco driving—blending vintage soul with 21st-century reliability. Under our care, this Scout underwent an extensive frame-up restoration focusing on performance, climate control, and heritage preservation.

Engineering & Powertrain: The LS2 Conversion

The heart of this build is a GM 6.0L LS2 V8 engine swap, a significant upgrade that transforms the Scout from a farm utility vehicle into a high-performance restomod.

● Drivetrain: Paired with a smooth-shifting four-speed automatic transmission and a JB Custom shifter for precise gear selection.

● Axles & Stance: To handle the increased torque, we utilized Dana 44 axles with 3.54 gears. A Rough Country 2″ lift provides the perfect stance for both city streets and Northern California trails, maintaining a comfortable ride quality without sacrificing the classic Scout silhouette.

Body & Heritage Steel: Restoration Over Replacement

Finished in a bespoke “Sandstone” beige, the exterior reflects our commitment to heritage steel restoration.

● Metalwork: Before the paint was laid, the body received extensive rust repairs to the cab mounts and rocker panels, ensuring the structural integrity of the original IH steel.

● The “Club” Finish: The build features a meticulously refurbished factory hardtop, a new windshield, and period-correct trim that honors the 1972 aesthetic.

The Interior: Modern Luxury, Vintage Vibe

Inside, we focused on the “Enjoy” pillar of our brand. The cabin is a refined space designed for long coastal drives.

● Comfort: Features power bucket seats upholstered in tan with retro-inspired striped cloth inserts.

● Climate & Sound: We integrated a Vintage Air A/C system for year-round comfort in the Bay Area, along with new premium carpets and a hidden Bluetooth stereo system for a seamless audio experience.
